Backpacking is also called tramping, trekking, or bushwalking. The main characteristic is that it combines hiking and camping. A backpacking trip must have at least one overnight stay in the wilderness. The name comes from ‘backpack’ which contains everything including food, water and camping materials. Sometimes a backpacking trip may last weeks or even months when it is a long-distance expedition. In such cases occasional food and supply drops are arranged.
